DPP criticised by appeal court judge

A woman has told the Court of Criminal Appeal she had no faith in the inquiry into allegations of Garda corruption in Donegal.

Karen McGlinchey said she believed there was a deliberate campaign to use her sister, Adrienne, to explain the activities of Gardaí in Donegal.

Mrs McGlinchey was speaking in the case of nightclub owner Frank Shortt, who is seeking a declaration of a miscarriage of justice after receiving a three-year jail sentence for allowing drugs to be sold on his premises.

The presiding judge, Mr Justice Adrian Hardiman, today criticised the actions of the Director of Public Prosecutions. It emerged today that a crucial document produced by the Garda authorities last Friday had been in the DPP's office since October 2000.

Counsel for the DPP admitted some mistakes had been made, but said that none of the mistakes were intentional.
