Three of the four lorries used in an armed robbery to steal £4m worth of cigarettes from Belfast Docks two days ago have now been recovered. Earlier today Gardaí found a third lorry in Collon in Drogheda in County Louth. Another lorry was found empty and abandoned, at Tullyesker, outside Drogheda yesterday. The RUC recovered a lorry in Omagh, County Tyrone late last night. It too was empty and has been examined by RUC technical experts. Four lorries were used by an armed gang who held up staff at a shipping company.
A Garda spokeswoman said that they believe the stolen cigarettes were off-loaded elsewhere before the vehicles were abandoned. A joint Garda-RUC investigation is continuing. The cigarettes were intended for export to Belgium and contained a health warning in three languages. A search is continuing for the other vehicle used in the Belfast theft.
