Man murdered in Dublin park known to Gardaí

Gardaí have named the 28-year-old Dublin man found beaten to death in a Dublin park over the weekend. He is Anthony Jenkinson who lived at Mount Olive Road in Kilbarrack in Dublin. Gardaí say that Mr Jenkinson was a local criminal who had convictions for larceny and possession of drugs. Gardaí are still trying to establish a motive for this gangland killing but believe Mr Jenkinsons' murder is connected to drugs, money or a personal vendetta. They are still searching for the murder weapon.

Forty detectives and members of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation held a case conference in Dublin on the latest gangland killing in the capital. Mr Jenkinson was found beaten to death in a wooded area of St Anne's Park in Raheny in Dublin early yesterday morning. Gardaí say that this was a brutal murder. Mr Jenkinson suffered a fractured skull and other severe head injuries. He was attacked at the scene and the post mortem has established the time of death as around 12.30am on Sunday.

At the scene of the crime today Gardaí cleared scrub and trees in their search for the murder weapon. It is thought to be a blunt instrument, probably a hammer or wheel brace. Mr Jenkinson was well known to Gardaí. He was a local criminal with a number of previous convictions for robbery, larceny and possession of drugs.
