The State Pathologist office has been called in to assist in investigating the death of a 24-year-old man who died shortly after being taken into Garda custody at Roxboro Station last night. The man had been arrested around ten o'clock last night in Limerick City centre under the Public Order Act. He was taken to Roxsboro Garda Station, but was found in a collapsed state in his cell 35 minutes later.
Gardaí tried to revive him until the ambulance arrived. He was rushed to hospital and was pronounced dead at 11.15. A Garda spokesman said that he had drink taken when arrested, but that he otherwise appeared to be fine. The State Pathologist’s office and the Garda Technical Bureau have been called in to determine how the young man died, including the possibility that he may have taken his own life.
