Man to appear in connection with Tipperary semtex seizure

A 39-year-old Limerick man arrested on Sunday night in connection with a seizure of semtex and bomb making equipment in Cahir, County Tipperary, is expected to appear before the Special Criminal Court tomorrow morning. Gardaí are still questioning a man and a woman arrested earlier today in connection with the same incident. The 43-year-old man and 40-year-old woman were arrested in a house outside Tipperary town at lunchtime today and are being held at Cahir garda station.

The seizure also included two drogue bombs, which are designed to be dropped on their targets, home made components for rocket launchers, home made mortars, grenades and an electric cable. The bombs were primed and ready for use. Gardaí believe that the haul belonged to the Continuity IRA, the dissident Republican group linked to Republican Sinn Féin, which is not on ceasefire.
