Nine people were arrested in Dundalk early this morning after Gardaí were attacked by a large crowd of revellers. The disturbances broke out in the Clanbrassil Street area when Gardaí arrived to deal with an alleged assault following a traffic accident. The officers were set upon by passers-by who threw stones, bottles and other missiles. People emerged from nearby nightclubs to join in the affray, and at one stage up to 800 people were involved. Order was restored by Gardaí equipped with riot gear. Four Gardaí received minor injuries.
