A 19 year-old Dublin man has been convicted of murdering a 17 year-old youth in Tallaght last year. Vincent Flynn of Kiltipper Close, in Old Bawn near Tallaght, was found guilty of the murder of Steven Morris near his home in Killakee Walk, Firhouse on the second of May.
After two days of deliberations in the Central Criminal Court, a majority of ten jurors this afternoon found Flynn guilty of murder. He has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
The tragedy occurred when Flynn's girlfriend ended their relationship last year. The two had had a row and he got an eight inch long hunting knife and ran out of his house. Flynn ended up at Morris's home in Kilakee Walk. Flynn's girlfriend had previously told him she fancied the 17 year-old leaving cert student and by the time he arrived at Morris's home, he was in a jealous rage. Flynn called for Morris, they began arguing. Following a scuffle on the road outside the house, Vincent Flynn stabbed Morris in the heart and pierced his aorta, the main artery in the heart. Morris’s brother Rory ran out found him lying on the road, fatally wounded.
