Crew rescued from burning fishing vessel off Mayo coast

A fire that broke out on board a fishing boat off the Mayo coast this morning has been brought under control. The 38-foot vessel, which had a three-man crew on board, was crab fishing in Broadhaven Bay, when a fire developed in the engine room shortly before 10 o'clock.

The crew took to a life raft but later with the assistance of the Ballyglass Lifeboat managed to get the blaze under control. The boat is now being towed to Ballyglass Harbour. Its due there at about midday. An Aer Corp helicopter from Finner Army base was also involved in the operation.
