Lockerbie suspects to stand trial

Two Libyans accused of the Lockerbie airliner bombing in 1988 have been ordered to stand trial during a final preliminary court hearing in the Netherlands. The brief closed door ceremony took place at Camp Zeist, a former US airbase that the Dutch have ceded to Britain for the duration of the trial.

The two Libyans were airlifted to the Netherlands last week after Libya agreed they could be tried before a Scottish court in the Netherlands. They are charged with the murder of 259 people aboard the airliner and 11 people on the ground who died when jet exploded in the air above Lockerbie in Scotland.
