Sport: Higgins makes a splash at The Crucible

John Higgins enjoyed a splashing time at the Embassy World Championship in Sheffield today to get his world title defence back on track. Not even an unscheduled delay caused by a leaking lighting rig could prevent Higgins making waves on day two of his semi-final with Mark Williams.

Higgins made two century breaks in six frames. His second ton, a brilliant effort of 127, enabled him to take the lead at 8-7 for the first time since the opening frame of the contest yesterday. But Welshman, Williams, the world number five, refused to give too much ground. He fired in a rapid half century, his sixth of the match.

When the match resumes tonight the 23-year-old Scot will start on level terms at 8-8 after beginning the morning 5-3 down. It was another vintage session of snooker from the pair who are meeting for the first time this season.
