A former soldier has been awarded almost two hundred and nineteen thousand pounds damages and costs by the High Court. This follows the Army authorities' failure to recognise his post traumatic stress condition and refer him for medical help following incidents in the Lebanon.
Mr Justice Budd said David McHugh, now aged thirty-six, was not claiming damages because he was subjected to stress or exposed to life threatening experiences or to dangerous situations or grisly dealings with mutilated corpses.
Rather his claim was based on the negligent failure of the State to recognise and treat the obvious symptoms of his Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
