There were shocks aplenty at the Golden Globes in Beverly Hills on Sunday night, including Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody taking Best Picture over the widely-tipped musical drama A Star is Born.
A Star is Born's lead duo Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper had been expected to win Best Actress and Actor, but the awards went to Glenn Close for her performance in The Wife and Bohemian Rhapsody's Rami Malek. Nominated in five categories, A Star is Born won just one award - Best Song for Shallow.

The political biopic Vice, which chronicles the rise to power of former US Vice President Dick Cheney, lost out on the Best Picture - Musical or Comedy award to Green Book - another shock at the ceremony.
Green Book also took the awards for Best Supporting Actor for Mahershala Ali and Best Screenplay. Vice had led the Golden Globes shortlist with six nominations, but Bale's award was its only win.

As expected, Olivia Colman won Best Actress - Musical or Comedy for her performance in black comedy The Favourite.
The film, which was co-produced by Dublin company Element Pictures, had been shortlisted in five categories, but Colman's award was its only win.

There were some other favourites among the winners: Roma was named Best Foreign Film with its director, Alfonso Cuarón, honoured with Best Director, while Regina King won Best Supporting Actress for her work on If Beale Street Could Talk.

In the television categories, there were wins for Killing Eve star Sandra Oh - Golden Globes co-host on the night - and Bodyguard's Richard Madden.

Following its final season, The Americans was named Best Drama with The Kominsky Method winning Best Series - Musical or Comedy and The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story winning Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
The Golden Globes ceremony and red carpet arrivals are on RTÉ2 on Monday night from 9:00pm. The Oscar nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 22.
