McGuigan, Barry

Irish featherweight boxer, promoter and broadcaster.

Born in 1961 in Clones County Monaghan, Barry McGuigan began boxing professionally at the age of 20. Known as 'The Clones Cyclone' his fast, aggressive and powerful fighting style appealed to boxing fans.

During his fighting career he held the British, European and World Boxing Association featherweight titles.

In June 1985 Barry McGuigan won the WBA World Featherweight Championship defeating Eusebio Pedroza in London.

In 1986, he lost his title to Steve Cruz. He continued to fight until 1989.

After retiring from boxing, he became a boxing trainer and commentator.
