For UNESCO World Day for Audiovisual Heritage 2008, Barry Cummins visits the RTÉ Television Archives and talks to Arthur Keating and Bríd Dooley about efforts to preserve RTÉ programmes.
A report from the United Nations has warned that up to 80 per cent of the world's audiovisual archive is in danger of being lost unless major initiatives are undertaken. Reporter Barry Cummins visited the RTÉ Television Archive to learn more.
RTÉ is one of many organisations around the world involved in projects to save hundreds of thousands of hours of radio and television material. UNESCO celebrates World Day for Audiovisual Heritage on October 27 2008.
Arthur Keating and Bríd Dooley talk about the RTÉ Television Archive. Archive staff are shown working on restoring television footage. The report includes footage from the visits of President John F Kennedy and Pope John Paul II and titles from 'Wanderly Wagon', 'Kings of Spades' and 'Garda Patrol'.
