The first Ploughing Championships covered by RTÉ were the ones held in Killarney in 1961. They were filmed on 8 and 9 November 1961 for the first ever episode of the farming programme 'On the Land', which was broadcast on 1 January 1962, the day after Telefís Éireann went on air.
Reporter Noel O'Reilly introduces the championships and talks to organiser Mrs Grosvenor, who fires a pistol to start the competition.
