Dublin Corporation says that a retaining wall must be built on the site at Wood Quay to maintain safety on the site.
Controversy continues to surround the Wood Quay site. There have been attempts to stop Dublin Corporation building a retaining wall, which they say is necessary because the earthen bank around the excavation has become dangerous.
Pat Russell Head of the Dublin Corporation's Civic Offices Development Project, quotes from a report drawn up by the corporation's structural engineer which recommends the building of the wall. He says it had already been decided that the area affected was not going to be excavated by archaeologists.
Opposition to the wall comes on the basis that it will not be possible to excavate in that area.
