Heaney's funeral mass is held in Dublin followed by burial in his native Derry.

Sinéad Crowley reports on Seamus Heaney's funeral mass at the Church of the Sacred Heart, in Donnybrook, Dublin. The large crowd includes family, friends and neighbours. The worlds of literature, arts and poltics are well-represented. Fellow-poet Paul Muldoon pays tribute to Heaney's "unparalleled capacity to sweep us all, all of us, up in his arms". Heaney's son Michael reveals that his final words were a text message to his wife Marie, "Noli timere", don't be afraid.

Brendan Wright reports from Bellaghy, Co. Derry on Heaney's burial. The poet is laid to rest beside his brother Christopher, who died as a child and inspired the poem 'Mid-Term Break'.
