The Mayor of Galway, Patrick D. Ryan, presents President Kennedy with the freedom of Galway. Speaking in Irish he hopes that the president will return to Galway with his wife and family.
The president addresses the packed Eyre Square about the links between Galway and Boston and reflects on how Americans of Irish descent can feel at home in Ireland. He promises a céad míle fáilte to the people of Galway if they go to Washington.
