A truck that crashed and overturned in Dunshaughlin rekindles the call for the town to be bypassed.
Shortly after 6.00 am a juggernaut carrying glass bottles from Cavan to Dublin failed to take the bend at the northern end of Dunshaughlin village in County Meath.
It turned over and slid along the road before embedding itself into the wall of a solicitor's office.
The cause of the accident is unknown. Luckily nobody was hurt and the lorry driver walked away from the incident uninjured.
As a result of the accident, the N3 was closed for most of the day.
A long stretch of what is one of the country’s busiest roads became one of the quietest.
A crane was brought in to lift the lorry and Meath County Council staff took several hours to clear the debris.
The accident highlights the longstanding call for Dunshaughlin to be bypassed. The National Roads Authority (NRA) say this cannot be done until the controversial M3 is built. Opponents to the proposed M3 routing through the Hill of Tara say they will take their case to the High Court if necessary.
