Census forms are delivered to every home in Ireland those who have not received one should contact the Central Statistics Office.

Over the past three weeks enumerators have been going door to door, to deliver cenus forms to every household in the country. In north inner city Dublin, Ciarán Lynam is responsible for delivering and collecting forms from around five hundred homes. Gaining access to apartment buildings remains a big challenge.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) reports that over 99% of the census forms have already been delivered to more than two million households nationwide. The distribution will continue right up until census day on Sunday.

Some criticism has been raised about the census questionnaire, particularly that sections on gender, ethnicity, and religion have not been updated since 2011.

The CSO has reminded the public that completing the census is a legal requirement. Senior statistician Deirdre Cullen warns that those who refuse to fill out the form may face prosecution. In 2011, five people were successfully prosecuted, with the highest fine reaching €500.

It only takes a couple of minutes. The information is hugely valuable.

Census 2016 will be the first time that homeless families living in hotels will be formally identified and counted.
