International writers and readers are in Galway for the city's festival of literature.

Now in its 21st year, Cúirt International Festival of Literature is widely regarded as one of the most vibrant and exciting events of its kind.

Among the highlights this year is best‑selling New York author Dava Sobel, known for Longitude (1995) and Galileo’s Daughter (2000). She captivated audiences in Galway with a reading from her latest book, The Planets (2005).

It’s the kind of experience that draws literary enthusiasts from across the globe to Galway.

Another major attraction is a performance by writer, actor, and director Rod Goodall of his acclaimed piece 'Talking to Terrorists'.

Tomás Hardiman of the Cúirt International Festival of Literature believes the event's success lies in a unique Galway atmosphere where the city brings a rare sense of closeness between readers and authors.

The access between readers and writers is just fantastic.

For Dava Sobel, the festival is a true celebration of reading and writing. She believes that, despite the rise of modern media, nothing will ever replace the power of books.
