Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann members and supporters march to RTÉ looking for more air time for traditional music.

Supporters of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann marched to RTÉ studios in Donnybrook to protest at the lack of traditional Irish music broadcast on radio and television.

The protesters marched from Parnell Square through Dublin city centre and on to Donnybrook.

The parade was part of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann's campaign for adequate coverage of traditional Irish music, song and dance.

At the RTÉ studios, the march was met by three of the national officers from Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann, who had been on a round-the-clock vigil for the past five days.

Labhrás Ó Murchú, national director of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann, told the protesters that an agreement had been met with RTÉ. A joint statement from RTÉ and Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann stated that an agreement had been met. Labhrás Ó Murchú outlined what had been agreed including plans for a new traditional music series, as well as a regular series of Irish traditional music programmes across the year. A development group and a liaison body will also be established and will meet regularly.
