John Conneely recites his own composition 'Requiem for a Rambling House'.

From Castlerea in County Roscommon, bard and balladeer John Conneely has won awards in national and international contests, including two consecutive prize wins at the Listowel Writers' Week in County Kerry.

He recites one of his own compositions, 'Requiem for a Rambling House'. Rambling Clare artist Leo Hogan hosts members of the community in his home, traditionally known as a rambling house, for an evening of revelry.

It would be a night to remember.

When the chimney catches fire and spreads to the thatched roof,

The true descendants of rambling house men, just moved the party outside.

The fire brigade arrived, and Leo Hogan watched his house burn,

Now it stands a burnt out shell.

A collection of poems 'Round the Red and Purple Flame' by John Conneely was published by Ossian Press, Castlerea in 1979. 'Requiem for a Rambling House' is included in this volume.
