Funderland returns to the RDS in Dublin with a variety of fairground thrills.
Since its inception in 1975, the indoor fairground Funderland has been held in the RDS Simmonscourt Pavilion. Funderland funfair was established by William Bird. The Bird family run two-thirds of the operation, and the remaining third is run by the McDonalds of Kilkee and Perks of Ardmore.
Alongside the classic amusements of waltzers and dodgems, every year brings new fairground attractions to the RDS. This year, these include 'The Hulk', a Dutch octopus-like machine. From France comes the 'Wall of Death'. Another new addition to Funderland, is a cinema.
For smaller children who prefer not to be suspended upside down, turned over or whisked through the air, there is a merry-go-round featuring Wells Fargo coaches.
Funderland opened to the public on 26 December 1980. The RDS will be crowded with happy funfair goers until 25 January 1981.
