An exhibition to mark fifty years of Irish radio opens at the Bank of Ireland on Baggot Street Dublin.
RTÉ Radio, or 2RN as it was then called, began broadcasting on 1 January 1926. To mark its golden jubilee, the exhibition hall of the Bank of Ireland on Baggot Street Dublin hosts 'Fifty Years of Irish Radio'
The free exhibition is launched by Minister for Posts and Telegraphs Conor Cruise O'Brien watched on by RTÉ Director-General Oliver Maloney and Chairman of the RTÉ Authority Dónall Ó Móráin.
A display of themed panels of presnent visitors with photographs and text realting to the history or radio in Ireland. The exhibition also has early broadcasting equipment microphones, a 1923 radio set, crystal sets and a more modern radio.
Records of course played a major part of radio's half century and you can listen in to tape recordings of the past.
Headphones are available so visitors can listen to excerpts from favourite programmes from the past 50 years.
The 'Fifty Years of Irish Radio' exhibition runs until 8 February 1976.
