A report from the traffic department at Dublin Corporation shows high-risk accident locations in the city.
Dublin Corporation roads engineer Vincent Maloney releases a special report identifying high risk accident locations. Confined to city roads only, this detailed study of accident black spots, shows that failure to observe traffic signals and other road signs by motorists is a major reason for accidents. More than half of the road casualties in the city involved drivers with under nine years driving experience.
High on the list of accident black spots are Ballyfermot Road, Kylemore Road and Le Fanu Road. One of the worst is the Kylemore Road and Naas Road junction, with statistics indicating a continuing and growing problem. Ballyfermot Road is the worst for pedestrian and child casualties.
Another problem area highlighted in the report is Bridge Street in Ringsend near St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church.
Referring to preventative measures, the report notes road safety publicity and education have an important role to play.
