The force is strong in Dublin as fans look forward to the premiere of the latest 'Star Wars' film.

Launching 'Star Wars' night in Dublin, The Spire on O'Connell Street lights up blue to resemble a giant lightsabre. The movie 'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens' opens nationwide from midnight, but 800 lucky fans at The Savoy Cinema have a special early showing.

I am so incredibly excited.

Directed by JJ Abrahams, the seventh instalment is a sequel to the 1983 film 'Return of the Jedi'. 'The Force Awakens' has a special link to Ireland with a pivotal scene shot on Skellig Michael in County Kerry. Ger Kennedy from the village of Portmagee recalls that before filming commenced, locals were told the incoming film crew was making a documentary about puffins. Excitement grew exponentially when,

Just about four days before they started filming, they let it out that it was 'Star Wars'.

'The Force Awakens' has been well received by critics, and many of the Irish fans are hoping to hold the same viewpoint.

So much expectation and I hope it can live up to it, and I'm quite sure that it will, hopefully.

One man is already looking forward to the next films in the 'Star Wars' franchise.
