In a new book Spike Milligan shares memories of growing up and the influence of his family.

Introducing Spike Milligan, Gay Byrne says that he has been entertaining us for years with his peculiar combination of fact and fantasy, characteristics which are present in his book, 'It Ends With Magic'.

It's the most peculiar and strange mixture of fact and fantasy and crazy meanderings.

Spike Milligan talks about his English mother and Irish father. His father was born in Sligo born and fond of telling the most incredible stories. He once asked,

What would you rather have, boring truth or an exciting lie?

Spike Milligan was born in 1918 in India, where his father was stationed as a sergeant in the British Army. He describes the Indian people as very gentle with a ridiculous sense of humour. He spent much of his childhood there before moving to England at the age of thirteen.
