Knitting is having a revival as young people enjoy learning a craft that allows them to create.

The Knitting and Stitching Show at the RDS in Dublin is expected to attract over 20,000 visitors.

New types of yarn, funky designs, and giant needles bringing quick results, this most homely of hobbies is attracting a new generation.

The growing popularity of knitting has resulted in so called 'Stitch and Bitch' groups who meet up in cafés to knit together.

According to organisers of the Knitting and Stitching Show, knitting is the new yoga. Organiser Andrew Salmon describes a craft that is both relaxing and creative and offers people a new way to express themselves.

The popularity for knitting has extended to the theatre. The Everyman Palace Theatre in Cork is hosting 'Hat' as part of the European Capital of Culture Festival. Tickets for the event include a free ball of wool, a pattern, and knitting needles.
