Liam Gallagher performs 'Guess God Thinks I'm Abel' and engages in some Manchester football banter.

'Don't Believe the Truth' is the sixth studio album from Oasis. In advance of the release on 30 May 2005, Oasis lead singer Liam Gallagher and guitarist Gem Archer perform the track 'Guess God Thinks I'm Abel' on 'The Late Late Show'.

The song, written by Liam Gallagher, references the biblical story of Cain and Abel in which Cain, the first born son of Adam and Eve, murders his brother Abel. Pat Kenny wonders if Cain is a metaphor for Noel Gallagher. For Liam Gallagher, it is not that deep.

I just thought I’d do it to mess with people’s heads and that, as well as my own.

Oasis are embarking on a world tour to support the new album, which will see them play in Marlay Park Dublin on 16 July 2005.

Liam Gallagher is a staunch Manchester City supporter, while Pat Kenny follows Manchester United. The impending takeover of Manchester United by American businessman Malcolm Glazer fills Liam Gallagher with glee. He has no sympathy for the club or its supporters.

You're for sale man, that's it, it's gone.

Nor does he particularly care if Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson stays on at Old Trafford.

He's not won anything for a bit.

Pat Kenny remains hopeful that his team will win the 2005 FA Cup final against Arsenal. Putting their good natured rivalry aside, Liam Gallagher wishes him good luck.

This edition of ‘The Late Late Show’ was broadcast on 20 May 2005. The presenter is Pat Kenny.
