Fruit growers attend an open day at the Pomology Research Centre in Dungarvan.
Two hundred fruit growers from around Ireland visited the Agricultural Institute station in Waterford, where Dr D W Robinson, assistant director of the institute, was one of the many speakers.
The programme highlighted research and progress on various aspects of orchard management.
Participants discussed work being carried out on training systems, tree spacing, the use of herbicides, the control of apple diseases, fruit thinning, picking dates, and the basics of marketing products.
Many of the visiting growers were taken on tours of the centre, which included a visit to the station's grapevines.
