Visitors from around the world are in Clifden for the Connemara Pony Show.

More than 4,000 visitors are in Clifden in County Galway to attend the 92nd Connemara Pony Show, where a record 600 ponies are taking part in the three day event.

Businesses are delighted with the significant increase in tourism in the region, with visitors from abroad up 25% on 2014. Brian Hughes, one of the owners of the Abbeyglen Castle Hotel in Clifden welcomes the overseas trade to the area. There are a significant number of visitors from the United States of America, Switzerland, Scandinavia, the Netherlands and France.

It's been the best year ever for international visitors for the area.

The standard is very, very high so it will be a difficult job.

The Connemara pony is a breed suited to young riders. Ronan Lee who has had his pony for two years is full of praise for her temperament.

I just love having her around the place.

The pony show is now part of a wider eight day festival, which includes family friendly events such as a dog show. There is also a best dressed lady competition, won by Demelza Gibbons from Oughterard in County Galway.
