A poll from The Irish Times finds that support for divorce remains stable ahead of the referendum.

A referendum on divorce in Ireland is due to take place in November 1995. An opinion poll published by The Irish Times newspaper, four months out from the referendum, shows that a majority support for the introduction of divorce remains stable.

The poll shows that 66 per cent are in favour of removing the ban on divorce from the constitution with 26 per cent are against the proposal and eight per cent have no opinion. The research also finds that 55 per cent favour the government writing conditions for divorce into the constitution.

There is disagreement in government about the time lapse between separation and divorce. More liberal elements favour a three year interval. A final decision will be made in September ahead of the November referendum.
