Report shows an increase in the number of Irish women travelling to Britain for abortions.

Statistics from the Irish Family Planning Association (IFPA) who compiled them in association with the British Pregnancy Advisory Services (BPAS) illustrate the issue of Irish abortions in Britain.

Women from every county in Ireland travel to England for terminations. Ann Furedi, spokeswoman for BPAS says they are no different to women in England in the same situation, with one exception,

They're made desperate by the fact that they have to travel.

It is not possible to procure abortion legally in Ireland, but the figures released today show the scale of the issue, says Chief Executive of IFPA Tony O’Brien.

Abortion is part of the reality.

Dr Berri Kiely, medical advisor to the Pro Life Campaign says the statistics show the urgent need for the government to put more resources in place and to offer women a very real alternative.
