The Irish Nautical College in Dún Laoghaire closes as maritime skills training moves to Cork.
The closure of the Irish Nautical College in Dún Laoghaire will see all the education and training for marine skills moves to Cork Regional Technical College (RTC). The move means that there would no longer be a maritime training centre on the east coast of Ireland.
All training equipment has now been removed from the college, loaded onto a truck and taken to Cork.
Captain Tim Walsh says that the new technical college in Dún Laoghaire could potentially run some nautical themed courses if permission were provided by the Department of Education. He has mixed feelings about the move to the Department of Nautical Studies at Cork RTC, but says while it presents challenges, it could offer opportunities in the future.
