Taoiseach Bertie Ahern gives his reaction to the news of terrorist bombs in London.

As the scale of the coordinated attacks in London unfolded, there was condemnation from world leaders. Taoiseach Bertie Ahern immediately contacted the United Kingdom Prime Minister Tony Blair to express condolences and support on behalf of the Irish people.

Speaking from Rome, a shocked Taoiseach said,

This is a horrific act of terrorism.

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern was at Hillsborough for talks with Peter Hain , the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when the news of the attacks broke. He too strongly condemned the attacks and praised the British government and embassies for assisting with setting up lines of communication for any Irish nationals impacted by the events. The Irish embassy has already been inundated with calls from families concerned about loved ones living in or visiting London.

Peter Hain said that the attacks have provoked revulsion throughout the world.

We will make sure that nobody gives in to this kind of terrorist outrage.
