Young people from across Ireland are in Mullingar to take part in the Slógadh '85 national finals.

An influx of 4,000 people over the country, along with their teachers descend on Mullingar, County Westmeath for the national finals of Slógadh '85. The event taking place from 10 to 14 April is organised by Gael Linn and Banc na hÉireann. The participants range in age from five to 25.

Over the five days the young people take part in competitions, ranging from handcrafts, drama and céilí, bands, singing and set dancing. Outside the competitions there are more informal activities, including sessions, breakdancing, céilís, discos, street music and art workshops. Venues used for Slógadh '85 are the County Hall, the Christian Brothers Hall and the Loreto Convent.

Slogadh '85 culminates with a finale concert for prize winners in the County Hall.
