Festival in Waterford celebrates the city's long maritime tradition.

In this the second year for the Waterford Maritime Festival people lined the city quays to see a mock-up rescue operation by the Air Corps. Other attractions included the LE Aoife and the visiting British navy vessel the HMS Anglesey.

The festival is worth hundreds of thousands of pounds to Waterford city and county. The Waterford Maritime Festival will raise money for the RNLI and the cardiac unit of Waterford Regional Hospital.

Festival organisers are hopeful that the Tall Ships Regatta will come to Waterford in the year 2006. Deputy Mayor of Waterford Alderman Maurice Cummins says efforts to achieve this goal are underway.
