The natural beauty of Glendalough in Wicklow is being marred by rusting cars and abandoned buildings.

As the summer season approaches, concern has been expressed that one of Ireland's most promoted tourist attractions, the valley of Glendalough, has become a dumping ground.

The battered wrecks of cars mar one view of the lakes.

Run-down buildings, signposts that need to be painted and an old boat that is gradually submerging at its lake moorings are just some of the unsavoury sights due to greet visitors to this part of the Garden of Ireland in the coming months.
