One hundred events across the country mark the first National Music Day for Ireland.
The project is the brainchild of Music Network and RTÉ Lyric FM, with the aim of getting everyone to listen to live music.
A veritable nationwide musical marathon.
One of the events saw 24 harpists perform on the new, harp-shaped Samuel Beckett Bridge in Dublin. In Sligo, the local men's barbershop chorus provided entertainment and fun at Sligo County Council headquarters. Rhona McGrath, assistant arts officer at Sligo County Council, said the day is about bringing live music and joy to people in any surrounding.
In Cork, the RTÉ Vanburgh Quartet gave a free concert and will perform again in later Bantry. There was an organ recital at Galway Cathedral. A selection of events is being broadcast on RTÉ Lyric FM.
