A first win for Ireland against South Africa.

Rugby history as Ireland beat South Africa on 10 April 1965 at Lansdowne Road in Dublin.

The narrow victory came with a try and two penalties for Ireland and a try and one penalty for the Springboks.

Ireland playing in white, opened the scoring with a try scored by PJ McGrath. A Dave Stewart penalty kick for South Africa left the sides level at 3 points a piece at half time.

In the second half, Mynard Mans scored a try for South Africa, Dave Stewart missed the conversion but the Springboks led 6 to Ireland 3. When Tom Kiernan landed a penalty the sides were level again. With five minutes to go, South Africa were penalised for collapsing a scrum and Tom Kiernan stepped up again with three more points to give Ireland the win.

The final score was Ireland 9 South Africa 6.
