A Carlow farmer uses a drone to herd sheep with great success.
With Shep the sheepdog injured, Paul Brennan from Killeshin on the Carlow Laois border tried using a drone to herd his brother Declan’s sheep on the family farm. He was surprised to find Ireland's first drone sheepdog moved 150 sheep from one field to the other with ease.
Other farmers are impressed by the flying shepherd.
Brilliant idea, absolutely, it's unbelievable the way it works.
Declan Brennan is not convinced the drone is vastly superior to the dog. While you do not have to feed a drone, it must be charged.
The drone can't close gates, neither can the dogs, so they're much of a muchness.
Shep will be relieved to know that, for now, drones will not be putting border collies out of work.
