A Dún Laoghaire conference encourages people to take up scuba diving and explore a fascinating world.

The Irish Underwater Council (IUC) also known as Comhairle Fo-Thuinn is the national governing body for recreational diving and underwater sports in Ireland. Organised by the IUC, the theme of scuba diving is explored in a series of conference talks at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dún Laoghaire.

Over three days, all aspects of scuba diving are covered including the diving equipment and literature. Visitors can also visit the 'Underwater Ireland '80' exhibition. Anyone interested in diving and underwater techniques can attend the IUC event.

One of its aims is to encourage more people to take up the sport.

Organisers point out that not only is it a sport but,

It's becoming increasingly important to the development of our undersea mineral wealth.

Scuba diving provides an entry to a fascinating world as demonstrated by RTÉ cameraman Peter Dorney.
