Rain causes major congestion in Dublin but homeowners hope it ends enforced water rationing.
Persistent heavy rain results in traffic jams in Dublin as the city faces almost 1.5 cm of rain. On O'Connell Street, traffic is bumper to bumper. Pedestrians rush to their destinations along rain soaked streets. Those unlucky enough to be without an umbrella are drenched.
The evening rush hour brings no relief from the chaos caused by the downpour. Motorists and bus drivers have their patience tested as traffic remains immobile.
Dublin Corporation attributes the congestion to more people using their cars during the deluge.
In the southeastern part of the country, farmers welcome the nonstop rain. Householders hope this will reduce the need for enforced water rationing in some areas.
