Residents of Talbot Green, a suburb of Wexford town protest about the condition of their homes.

Tenants of the Wexford Corporation estate Talbot Green joined the town's annual industrial parade in an unofficial capacity to highlight their situation.

The Talbot Green scheme was constructed by Wexford Corporation at the start of the decade, and it is now generally acknowledged that the houses were built to a poor standard.

A recent report by the IIRS (Industrial Institute of Research and Standards) outlined the scale of the problem. It was submitted to Wexford Corporation, who refused to engage with the Talbot Green community and discussed the report behind closed doors.

Nicky White says that the local authority has been ignoring them, and it will end up costing more money the longer the situation is allowed to go on.

In the meantime, residents are being forced to live in substandard houses.

People are in a terrible way.

Mayor of Wexford John Roche says that the Wexford Corporation budget will not cover renovations at Talbot Green, and calls on the Department of the Environment to take responsibility,
