Joy and tears for competitors at the National Finals of the Community Games at Mosney in County Meath.

The final parade and display at the 1984 Community Games followed five days of competitions. The parade sees all the counties march out of the grounds to mark the end of the games.

All the medals have been presented and the tears have been shed.

Anything Goes takes a look back at some of the events and meets some of the athletes who took part.

A high point of the final day's events was the Boys Under-17 six-mile Marathon Race. First across the line was Seán Kennedy from Kilkenny followed closely by Andrew Larkin from Dublin and Joseph McKinney from Donegal. Olympic Silver Medal Marathon Winner John Treacy was on hand to congratulate the winner and chat about the race.

John Treacy says that the community games is a great starting point for young athletes.

That type of competition is the stepping stone to bigger and better things.

Olympic finalist Caroline O'Shea is another sporting star at the games on the final day. Caroline recalls running in the community games as a young athlete.

Eight-time gold medal winner Norma Farrell has great ambitions for the future and has her eyes set on qualifying for the Seoul Olympics.

This episode of 'Anything Goes' was broadcast on 29 September 1984. The presenter is Kathy Parke.
