Photographer Barry Delaney has been creating images of a group of people he met by the river Liffey.

Barry Delaney came to photograph a group of people he met while initially trying to capture the changing landscape of Dublin. He observed these people who were continually being moved on like they were unwanted.

Under bridges, down laneways. Barry Delaney has turned his lens on people in places others hurry by.

The subjects for this exhibition are this group of people who gather by the Liffey boardwalks. Social problems in the area have been well documented. As a photographer Barry Delaney wanted to capture the human stories behind the challenging lives these people led. He wants the photographs to allow the individual to be seen as a person rather than somebody who is dangerous, unwanted or a burden to society.

You actually see that this is somebody's son, this is somebody's brother, this is somebody's sister. This is a human being.

One of the subjects of the photographs, Martin Joyce, was homeless when he died early in the year.

The exhibition which opens this week at the Civic Offices in memory of Martin Joyce.
