Chocolate makers in the United Kingdom announce plans to stop producing kingsize bars.

Some king size chocolate bars are to be discontinued in the Unlited Kingdon. Large Mars and Snickers bars will be among those phased out. Food giants such as Nestle and Cadbury have pledged to reduce portion sizes and signal to consumers the need to eat in moderation.

Soon to be confined to the dustbin of nutritional needs.

The food industry has decided to throw its weight behind a campaign to promote sensible eating. A large Snickers bar has more calories than a meal of sirloin steak and potatoes. Food manufacturers have made a number of pledges including improved labelling, responsible marketing, the provision of lower sugar, salt and fat options, and the removal of snack vending machines from primary schools.

Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock brought the issue into focus in his recent documentary 'Super Size Me'. As a result, McDonalds has also decided to scrap the supersize option.

An estimated one in every five adults in Ireland is obese. It remains to be seen if these food standards will be applied to the Irish market.
