The smash hit show Mamma Mia! based on the songs of ABBA gets ready to open in Dublin.

Final preparations are underway at The Point Theatre for the opening of Mamma Mia! This is the first time the box office success has been seen outside the West End in London anywhere in the UK or the Republic of Ireland.

Preparations have been for opening night have been going on for several weeks. Associate director Paul Garrington says it takes a lot of bodies and time to put the show on.

Inspired by Abba songs, the story of family and friendship unfolds on a small island.

Helen Dobson who plays Anna describes Mamma Mia! as an inspiring tale with a feelgood factor.

The cast includes three Irish performers, including 21 year old Kenneth Farrelly who has a big challenge as the understudy for six roles. After six weeks of rehearsals, he is confident that it will be a tough but enjoyable experience. While he was not previously a fan of Abba, he is now.

Mamma Mia! will be at The Point until early November.
