Three members of the Dublin Housing Action Committee with their families move into a Georgian house due to be demolished.

Three families, members of the Dublin Housing Action Committee, are squatting in a Georgian house at the corner of St Stephen's Green and Hume Street. They have been looking for homes in the city for about a year without success.

The families are Breda and Hugh O'Rourke and their three-month-old baby; James Wade and his pregnant wife Kathleen; and Maureen and Patrick Geraghty and their one child. They are determined to continue squatting until they are offered alternative accommodation.

The vacant building, owned by the Green Property Company is in good condition. However, the Green Company has made an application seeking permission to demolish 44-45 St Stephen's Green, 18-19 Hume Street, 46-49 St Stephen's Green, and 1-2 Hume Street to make room for office blocks.

The Dublin Housing Action Committee, the Irish Georgian Society and An Taisce believe the period houses should be preserved.
